2012-12-07 The Minister of National Defence travelled from Ottawa to Nova Scotia to complete announcements related to Cape Breton infrastructure and a diamond jubilee medal presentation. MND then spoke at the St. Francis Xavier convocation before travelling to Antigonish, NS. 2013-01-13 COLORADO SPRINGS VISIT – 13-15 Jan 2013 MND travelled to Colorado Springs to visit Gen Jacoby, US NORAD Commander, LGen Alain Parent, DComd NORAD and the Canadian Forces members employed at NORAD HQ. He participated in a hosted dinner by Gen Jacoby, paid respect to 9-11 victims at the 9-11 Memorial, participated in office call with NORAD Comd, attended numerous briefings and N2C2 demonstration. MND departed C-Springs for Toronto. The following morning MND met with the 8 Wing Commander Trenton, ON, conducted a media event followed by meeting the crew of the C-17 who was preparing to depart for MALI. MND returned to Ottawa upon completion of the event. $1,847.34
2013-01-19 Haggis Night Sydney NS – 19 Jan 13 Minister MacKay drove from his riding to Sydney Cape Breton and attended a Haggis Night Dinner at the Sydney Garrison. Cape Breton Highlanders had invited MND to attend as it was an opportunity to visit with CF members, veterans and community members. MND was made an honorary member of the Cape Breton Highlanders Association. The WWII vets presented a kilt to MND from the Association. $476.79
2013-01-25 MND travelled to CFB Trenton Ontario to make several infrastructure announcements. These include two new facilities at 8 Wing Trenton: Maintenance Hangar 6 and a new building to house the Canadian Forces Land Advanced Warfare Centre (CFLAWC). The construction contract value of these projects is $72.9M and $36.5M respectively. He will also announce other projects such as the infrastructure modifications at the Sedley S. Blanchard Air Mobility Training Centre (AMTC) amounting to over $1.2M; the second part of Phase II of the expansion project for the National Air Force Museum of Canada (NAFMC) valued at over $1.2M; and renovations for the Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) facility, which cost approximately $640,000. He visited all of these locations and completed his trip by speaking at a Sir John A MacDonald fundraising dinner orgainzed by MP Rick Norlock, before returning to Ottawa. $0.00
2013-01-26 The Minister of National Defence travelled from Ottawa to Halifax to participate in Nova Scotian community infrastructure funding announcements for Memory Lane Heritage Museum, Halifax YMCA, and the Africaville Heritage Trust. The Minister of National Defence returned to Ottawa the following day. $249.26
2013-01-31 MND travelled to Munich Security Conference (1-3 Feb). In addition to participating in the scheduled conference agenda, MND attended the Christian Social Union (CSU) Transatlantic Forum Luncheon (1 Feb) where he spoke and answered questions on Missile Defence, made informal remarks at the ‘Munich Strategy Forum’ dinner (1 Feb) hosted by the Potsdam Foundation in honour of Baron Ewald von Kleits, spoke on the R2P Panel Breakout Session, held bilats with Mongolia, Brazil, UK, US (Sen McCain and Congressional Delegation), Montenegro, Israel, Sweden, Slovenia, Denmark and the Netherlands and had pull-asides with Norway, Singapore, William Cohen, and Wolfgang Ischinger. During the visit to Oslo, Norway, the MND attended a welcome dinner hosted by Norwegian MoD, Ms Anne-Grete Strøm-Erichsen. The following morning, he layed a wreath at the Cross of Sacrifice and commemorated 8 RCAF graves at the Western Civil Cemetery in Oslo, met with the Norwegian MoD and CHOD, General Sunde, at the Ministry of Defence to receive briefings and discuss The High North and Russia. MND attended a working luncheon with Norwegian MoD at a local restaurant and then a met with Ms Ine Eriksen Søreide (chair) and 5 mbrs of the Norwegian Parliaments Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence to answer questions (informal/off the record) on The High North, SAR, and F-35 before travelling to airport for return trip to Ottawa. $7,346.69
2013-02-15 Western Tour – Edmonton, Cold Lake, Esquimalt – 15–18 Feb: MND arrived in Edmonton 15 Feb from Guelph. 16 Feb - He did an announcement at CFB Edmonton and met with CF members while on base. Announcement was 1. Upgrade to Sanitary and Storm Sewer System, 2. ASU Edmonton Fire Inspection, Testing, Minor Repair and 3. IRBs related to the Hercules C-130J announced as an award to university of Alberta. 17 Feb – MND drove from Edmonton to Cold Lake to make an announcement on 1. Announce Day Care Initiative, 2. Announce 10% rent reduction at CFB Cold Lake, 3. F-18 Training. MND then held a round table discussion with COmd RCAF and wing commander to discuss housing issues at 4 Wing Cold Lake. MND drove back to Edmonton that night. 18 Feb – MND flew to Victoria and met with Esquimalt Legion, and then made a Jetty Infrastructure announcement at CFB Esquimalt. MND then had a tour of HMCS VICTORIA, then he toured Naval Operations Training Centre (simulators and facilities) he then met with and addressed students and staff at NOTC Venture (Training Centre). 2013-02-15 GUELPH VISIT– 15 February 2013 MND travel to Guelph ON for the following events: 1. Visit to McCrea House where he met the museum curator Ms Beverly Dietrich, Ms Tammy Atkin and Kathleen Wall. MND also laid a wreath at the monument. 2. MND proceeded to Our Lady of Lourdes High School to receive the NATIONAL LEADERSHIP AWARD and met veterans, members of the 11th Field Artillery Regiment, members of the Red Arrows, members from the Wellington Rifles, MP Valeriote, President of Guelph Legion, the Guelph Police Chief, and several Police Inspectors, Fire Chief, Army and Air cadets, and many Legion members, teachers and school principal. 3. MND continued to Homewood Health Centre where he met the medical staff of the clinic and conducted a tour of the facility. During a round table discussion he met Dr. Brian Furlong, Dir Community Div, Dr. Dianne Pittman, Dir, Specialized Psychiatry Div, Dr. Harry Vedelago, Dir, Homewood Addiction Div, Jordana Sternberg, Social Worker, Program for Traumatic stress Recovery, Janet Griffin, Recreation Therapist, Program for Traumatic Stress Recovery, Dr. Gary Veenman, Physician, Substance Abuse and Trauma Safety Program, Andreja Marjanovic, Psychological Associate, Substance Abuse and Trauma Safety Program, Wendi Woo, Psychological Associate, Homewood Addiction Div, Don Webers, Addiction Counsellor, Homewood Addiction Div, and Helen Artuso, Customer Relations Account Manager. 4. The fourth event was a Military Announcement at the ASU Toronto where he announced New Service Contract at Area Support Unit Toronto 5. Lastly, MND continued his travel to Ajax where and co-chair with Parl sec, Chris Alexander a round table at the Ajax Legion. MND returned to Toronto and continued his travel to Edmonton. $2,494.22
2013-02-20 NATO The Ministerial meeting represents a decisive opportunity to initiate a capitals-led discussion on returning the Alliance to a focus on its core strengths: interoperability , deployability, and value for money. The objectives are to: 1) advance Canada’s leadership on the review of NATO’s common-finding principles and priorities and on interoperability; 2) actively engage Allies on how to position the Alliance for the future; and 3) Leverage bilateral engagements. Day 1 program included a pre-brief at the Canadian Delegation to NATO, followed by a Turkey Bilat, a working lunch of NATO Ministers of Defence, a France Bilat, a meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence on Transformation, an official photo, and finally, a working dinner of NATO Ministers of Defence. Day 2 program included a pre-brief at the Canadian Delegation to NATO, followed by a German Bilat, a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission, an Australia Bilat, a New Zealand Bilat, a meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence with Non-NATO ISAF contributing Nations, a United Kingdom MOU signing & Bilat, a Finland Bilat, a Georgia Bilat, and finally a wrap up session/light lunch with our Canadian delegation. $9,146.78
2013-02-22 TORONTO GARRISON BALL – 22-24 February 2013 MND travel to Toronto upon completion of his NATO Ministerial travel to attend the Toronto Garrison Ball event on 23 February. MND was the guest of honour / speaker for the event hosted by the CO of the HMCS YORK, Cdr O’Leary. $0.00
