2013-03-03 Canadian Memorial Trust Minister MacKay, on behalf of Minister Ambrose, announced a contract award of $455,400 under CICP to Akoostix Inc. of Nova Scotia for their innovation TruView RPA (Rapid Processing and Analysis) Sonar Processor. Minister MacKay also announced a one-time contribution of $240,000 to the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust (CNMT) in support of famous naval memorial HMCS Sackville, and the Canadian Naval Memorial Project. This contribution will support a portion of a national design competition, which will result in the development of a detailed design concept for the Naval Memorial Project building(s) which is expected by the end of 2013. $0.00
2013-03-06 AOPS (Artic/Offshore Patrol Ship) Announcement. Minister MacKay announced on behalf of the government the awarding of the Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship definition contract to Irving Shipbuilding Inc. as part of the National Shipbuilding Procurement Stategy. This 30 month contract is one in a series leading to the delivery of new ships for the Royal Canadian Navy. $1,321.74

2013-04-19 Minister MacKay delivers the keynote address at the Canadian Club of Toronto to make the important announcement about the reinstatement of the royal prefixes within the Canadian Army organization/Aquitaine Visit. Minister MacKay visited and toured the French multi-mission frigate Aquitaine and delivered remarks on the importance of Canada - French defence partnership $1,215.87
2013-04-26 The Sedona Forum theme was “How can we promote Freedom and Democracy Effectively?” The Forum was organized by the McCain Institute for International Leadership launched in early 2012 and is affiliated with the Arizona State University. MND program began on Friday 26 April with a meeting with Ambassador Michael Polt (Senior Director of the McCain Institute) who provided MND with an understanding of the goals and missions of the Forum. This meeting was followed by a reception and dinner, attended by Vice-President Joe Biden and other VIPs. The evening concluded with a discussion on “advancing Freedom – Human dimension” held with Senator John McCain and VP Biden. MND program for Saturday 27 April 2013 kicked off with a continental breakfast with fellow delegates, followed by welcoming remarks by Dr Michael Crow – President of ASU, and a briefing by Ambassador Kurt Volker – Executive Director of the McCain Institute. The panel sessions commenced with the first panel, composed exclusively of US Senators (Kyl, Graham, Ayotte, and Whitehouse) on “What should America do differently in the promotion of freedom and democracy.” The second panel composed of Dr Gebril, Senator Lieberman, and General Keane, on “Democracy’s challenges in Libya and the future of the Middle East.” The third panel, on “Democracy’s challenges – Europe less free?,” MND was a panellist along with Mr. Saakashvili, Mr Ivanov, Mr Kasyanov, and Mr Sannikov. During lunch, MND attending a discussion with Dikembe Mutombo on “Humanitarian Action – Lifeline to democracy.” Following lunch, the fifth panel with Mr Immelt (GE) and Mr Simon (Wal-Mart USA) focussed on “Economics and the Private Sector Role in Democracy.” Finally, the day’s program concluded with a Reception and dinner at the McCain Ranch, where again MND interacted with delegates, and VIPS. MND’s program for Sunday 28 April 2013 comprised entirely of our return transit to Ottawa. $1,964.15
2013-05-05 The Minister of National Defence was in Halifax for the Commemoration of The Battle of the Atlantic held at Point Pleasant Park. MND laid a wreathe on behalf of the Government of Canada and was the keynote speaker at the event. $1,098.14
2013-05-10 St. Jean Announcement Minister MacKay announced three local investments with a total combined value of $3.8 million including: Emergency repairs to a wooden structure at the St-Jean Garrison ($826,000 - awarded to Drumco Construction Inc.), Work on the Mann Bastion retaining wall at the Valcartier Garrison ($2.078 million - awarded to Briquetal Ltée), and Replacement of the condenser tanks and the #2 boiler of the thermal plan at Valcartier Garrison ($1.065 million - awarded to Groupe Beaudoin Inc). $0.00
2013-05-14 HMCS Acadia Minister MacKay, along with MP Greg Kerr, brought attention to a contract award to operate the Her Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) Acadia Sea Cadet Summer Training Centre by touring the Annapolis Basin Conference Centre, the venue awarded the contract for the provision of the facilities and services required. The contract has an approximate value of $11 million, and carries a term of three years, with two one-year extension options, bringing the total possible contract term to five years ($3.4 million per year for the five years plus HST). $0.00
2013-05-15 Greenwood Medical Centre. Minister MacKay, along with MP Greg Kerr, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the construction of a new health services centre at 14 Wing Greenwood $0.00
2013-05-16 MND travelled to the Royal Military College of Canada (RMCC) to participate in the Convocation Ceremony. The MND was met on arrival by the Commandant, BGen Eric Tremblay, and the Principal, Dr Joel Sokolsky, for a Pre-Convocation Reception at the Senior Staff Mess where he had lunch and met with other VIPs attending the Convocation. A Chancellor of RMCC, MND addressed the graduates, presented Academic Awards, and assisted with the conferring of graduate and undergraduate degrees during the ceremony. On completion of the ceremony, MND returned to Ottawa. $1,066.65
